Initial thoughts from our newest Apprentice Lewis, who we had previous contact with as he has been at the forefront of participation/ youth engagement in the city for a number of years....an Apprentice of the highest calibre, so pleased to have him on board.....

"I’ve worked with Paul (Moran) and Laura Edwards on multiple different events and projects as a part of Salford Youth Council. Since 2012 I have been active in Salford as a member of the Youth Council, firstly representing Irlam and Cadishead as a Youth Councillor, then going on to be the MYP (Member of Youth Parliament) and then on to be the elected Young Mayor for the city.
In 2013 I was elected to serve the young people of Salford as the youth MP, and then in 2016 I faced the city wide ballot box for a second time, and was subsequently elected as the Young Mayor with 60% of the vote.

My interests led me to work with the Young Carers Service. Planning and co facilitating the celebrated Seldom Heard event, the first Salford Young Carers Day, Takeover Day 2017 as a member of the Youth Council and raising money for Salford Young Carers at my charity ball has made me feel less of a stranger and less of a new comer!

I’ve been championing the young carers service for as long as I have known it existed.  Being part of the service now and having the opportunity to better employment standards for carers is a great privilege I don’t take lightly.

I’ve enjoyed my first month, the staff at the Carers Centre, my colleagues, are truly representative about what is good about Salford. I’m in constant awe at the determination and dedication of the carers we work for. To say everyone is nice is an understatement, the whole centre have welcomed me with open arms. In the short time I’ve been here, I already feel like part of the team and I am excited to see what I can achieve as part of that team in the future."

Pleased your with us to Lewis.......
