To day I attended the Heart of Salford Awards Event to celebrate the successes of the volunteering sector in Salford, the massive contribution made by ordinary people to the everyday life of some of the cities most vulnerable citizens young & old. The event was as always expertly run by the team at Salford CVS and we owe them a huge thanks for all their work in supporting the Voluntary & Community sector in the city.

After all our excitement in later November in London today was more about acknowledging the role volunteers play in the city but I was still very proud to be sat at a table with 3 young carers, all of whom were up for awards & our results were as follows;

Nomination for Personal Achievement Award;  John H. (Young adult Carer)

Nomination for Volunteering Team of the Year Award; Madison T. & Regan Mcfor their work with Healthwatch

Nomination for Charity of the Year; Salford's Young Carers & Young Adult Carers Board

Although no winners this week all nominations got certificates and acknowledgment of their contribution to city life and special commendation was made to the Young Carers & Young Adult Carers Board for the amazing way they balance their caring roles and fight to keep caring issues on the agenda for both local & national politicians.

So awards season is over for 2015 and we have certificates to put on our wall and most importantly  tremendous recognition for carers aged 24 and that at the end of the day was what it was all about.

And at the end of it all we are even prouder of our young people, if that was possible!! Tomorrow we will prove it as we take the Board out for their Christmas "do"
