HAPPY CHRISTMAS & LOOKING FORWARD TO 2016

Well that's almost that, Santa's on his way for all us "good" people and soon it will be 2016, back to school, back to work and it'll all be over....then maybe the snow will finally arrive!!

But before I go for the last contract meeting of the year, & make sure all the information needed for carers is accessible just in case a few words about 2015.

First of all Richard and Precious, 2 excellent workers left us for pastures new a huge loss we thought and then along came Nicola and Natalie and we thought again. In a very short space of time they have had a huge impact and really driven us on, good appointments so a huge thanks to the pair of them.

In the meantime Myrthe, Charlotte and Jenny have continued to develop our work with businesses, colleges and primary schools - all 3 working really hard and getting us through the stages of being 2 staff short without a blink. massive thanks to them, and to Eileen our trusty admin without whom I am not sure any of us could do the job

Also thanks to Nasreen, Kathy, Katie, Adina & Stephanie, our very special sessional workers who have support groups/activities all year long

And what a year they have all worked in;

Young Carers Award at the Children & Young People Now Awards in London, in partnership with the Lowry Theatre

Certificate of recognition for the Young Carers & Young Adult Carers Board in the heart of Salford Awards

Certificate of recognition for the work young carers did with Healthwatch looking at young people's mental wellbeing in the Heart of Salford Awards

Launch of the Inter Active Tool kit for schools and youth groups looking at young carers issues, developed by young carers working with us and the Lowry and launch at a really glittery affair at the theatre in October

First ever Salford Young Carers Day, run by young carers and a truly amazing awareness raising event

Business breakfast for local firms exploring issues about carers in the work force

A truly amazing and successful year working with amazing staff, partners and young people. Not sure how we can top it in 2016.....but we will I promise. Early in 2016 we will revisit 2015s pledges and report on them in detail but in the meantime what we can promise is;

WE WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE THE NUMBERS OF CARERS WE IDENTIFY

WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH CARERS TO REDUCE THE STRESS/PRESSURE ON THEM AND TO ENSURE THEY HAVE THE SAME LIFE OPPORTUNITIES AS THEIR PEERS

WE WILL CONTINUE TO HELP THEM BE PROND OF BEING A CARER AND BE ABLE TO REPRESENT THEMSELVES IN DEVELOPING SERVICES

And as I move into a new role with responsibility for adult carers as well as all under 24 I promise that the good practice and principles we have leant so well with the younger carers will be the base of the Service will develop for the over 24s-Awareness, identification, resilience/reduction, support

2015 A great year 2016 looking better already!!
