The Kings Arms in Salford has been in situ since 1870 and is now rightly viewed as both icon and legendary on the Salford, and Manchester, scene. Since 2011 the pub lease has been held by another iconic figure in Paul Heaton, one of the greatest singer song writers of the last 30 years having fronted both the Housemartins and The Beautiful South, as well as having a very successful solo career.
The Kings Arms now, as well as having excellent beer and food, also hosts art exhibitions, Fringe Festivals, Gigs, Poetry nights and all sorts of other weird and wonderful types of entertainment.
And now they are supporting the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford and her three charities for 2014/15 by organising what could be the gig of the year with all proceeds going to the charity.
The three charities all provide much need support to some of Salford's most vulnerable citizens, from young people as young as 6, who's life as children is seriously impacted upon by the caring they have to do for family members, some on their own with no other support, for young people who because of the economic environment they live in cannot develop their skills and potential as musicians and for the older generation who need respite and breaks where there is 24hr care on call and yet can still feel like a holiday who both the carer and the cared for.
The three charities are;
Salford Young Carers
The Salfordian Hotel in Southport
The Andrew Cooke Music Award Trust & Memorial Fund
