Sad News

Richard informed us on Monday that he had been successful in applying for and getting a post with Calderdale Council. This was an unpleasant shock for all our small team and no doubt will be the same for many of the young people he has worked with over the past 5 years, of the original young people he worked with, who nick-named him Barbie, Sophie remains and will now have to think up strange and non relevant nicknames for other members of staff!!

As a team we will all miss Richard But understand his decision in developing his career and wish him all the best for the future. We as a Service will always be indebted to the hard work he has put in and the commitment he has shown to young carers in the city-he will be a hard act for someone to follow.

Sadly for Richard he will still have to attend this years Pantomime, so we hope as many of you as possible attend to say good buy to the man you nicknamed "Barbie". if over 13 please contact me so we can sort out tickets etc.

now a few words from the man himself;

“Hi guys,

I am just writing to let you know that as of January 2015 I will no longer be working for Salford Young Carers. I must say that this was a very difficult decision to make because I have really enjoyed working with all the families and young people that I have known over the last few years and I really have met some amazing people during my time here. However, all good things must come to an end, and every now and again people sometimes feel like they need to try something new. I began as an extended team member before moving to a full-time role in 2010, and throughout all that time I’ve met loads of different people, working with lots of young carers in some quite serious and difficult situations at times, but one thing I can say is I have lots of good memories to take with me so thank you all for those!

Looking forwards, in January I will begin a new job working to reduce isolation and improve people’s health and well-being in Halifax, West Yorkshire. I am slightly nervous about working with a new team and in a completely new area, but I am also very excited about a new challenge. I would just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone the very best for the future. I have lots of good memories and I hope you do too.

Richard”

So all the best from us and thanks for the past 5 years.
